Frequently asked questions about Family & Children Services

Who are we?  Family & Children Services is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian human service organization founded in 1903.

What do we do?  Our mission is to support, strengthen and preserve safety, well-being and dignity of children, individuals and families.  These services are explained in detail in the Programs section of our website.

Who do we serve?  We work with infants, children, young families, and adults who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.  Our goal is to decrease the factors causing stress and increase ability to cope with life’s challenges.

Where are services provided?  Many services reach people in their own homes.  Others are available at our offices, in schools, at our respite houses and respite activity center, as well as in foster care homes.  Our services are available to people living in Barry, Calhoun, and Kalamazoo counties.

How are we supported?  Family & Children Services is supported through allocations from the United Ways  in our three-county area, contracts with Community Mental Health entities, the Michigan Department of Human Services, insurance reimbursements, and fees for service. The Agency’s HANDLE WITH CARE annual fund, In-Kind Donation program, and Holiday Giving Program provide for critical client needs through generous community donation. The Circle of Hope Endowment provides for the long term operating needs of the Agency.
